Finkl D2 is an air hardening tool steel with excellent abrasive wear resistance coupled with high resistance to softening at elevated temperatures.

Typical applications of Finkl D2 are roll forming tools, long run dies for blanking or deep drawing, cold forming and extrusion dies, dies for cutting laminations, molds for ceramic processing, burnishing and knurling tools, mandrels, shear blades, and slitter knives. Finkl D2 can also be used for plastic injections mold inserts, and injection screw parts when handling abrasive plastics.

Finkl D2 is high quality tool steel that is melted, vacuum arc degassed, forged, heat treated, and processed at the Finkl Chicago manufacturing campus.

Finkl D2 is forged using proprietary techniques to produce flat bars from 4 to 40 inches thick and solid or bored rounds from 5 to 50 inches in diameter. Special sizes and shapes, as well as modified D2 chemistries are available on request. Finkl D2 is sold in the annealed condition (approximately 235 BHN).

Finkl D2 is forged utilizing wide die techniques that assure consolidated centers and fine grain structure, resulting in improved properties throughout.

Finkl D2 is 100% ultrasonically tested according to the most rigorous standards.
