CarElso® 70 SOHIC is a special high strength quenched and tempered CMn steel adapted for pressure equipment. CarElso® 70 SOHIC is manufactured via the electric arc furnace with desulfurisation, dephosphorisation, ladle refining and vacuum degassing to provide a reproducible, clean and homogeneous steel.

The heat treatment applied to CarElso® 70 SOHIC permits the use of low carbon content which, along with the use of special steelmaking practice imparting high steel cleanliness, gives CarElso® 70 SOHIC excellent resistance to wet H 2 S cracking such as HIC and SOHIC. The low carbon content and uniform microstructure of CarElso® 70 SOHIC also lead to excellent weldability and toughness properties

This steel is particularly suitable for pressure equipment in both refinery and gas treatment applications in severe sour service conditions, where wet H 2 S cracking mechanisms such as SOHIC can operate (e.g. high pressure separators).
