CarTech® Vicalloy I Alloy
These alloys can provide versatile alternatives to higher coercivity materials which, although they provide the magnetic properties required for countless applications, are difficult to fabricate because of their brittleness. Also, some of the higher coercivity materials may exhibit poor corrosion resistance and less than desirable temperature stability.
CarTech Vicalloy I is a precipitation hardened cobalt-base permanent magnet alloy. It is supplied to customers in the solution-treating condition which is very ductile. In this condition, it can be punched, formed, bent, drawn and machined.
After fabrication, it requires an aging heat-treatment at a temperature between 600 and 700°C for periods of 2 to 6 hours.
During aging, a second phase precipitates which is vanadium rich. This precipitation results in both physical and magnetic hardening. The hardness produced is typically Rc 60. After aging, the material may only be ground.
Applications:
CarTech Vicalloy I Alloy has been used for biasing magnets in meters and magnetic actuators, as magnetic coded devices, field coils for DC motors and servos, and hysteresis motor laminations.
