The M-15X steel is a martensitic hardenable stainless steel. It is Vacuum Induction Melted (VIM) and produced by a proprietary powder metallurgy technique. This particular metallurgy process ensures an especially fine grain size, microstructural homogeneity and cleanliness. Its high level of chromium + nickel and the microstructural homogeneity improve the corrosion resistance of this steel comparatively to the standard casted 1.4057 (AISI 431) and 1.4034 (AISI 430). The temperature of recrystallization after cold deformation is between 650 and 700°C, typically 680°C for 1 to 6 hours under protective atmosphere.

The M-15X steel allows the production of exceptionally fine surfaces. Its hardening capability, cold formability, polishing ability and corrosion resistance are definitely improved compared to that achievable with the standard 1.4057 (AISI 431) steel. The reproducibility and uniformity of its properties within close tolerances are also very good. All these features allow an improved cost effective production of parts for watch movements; for fine mechanical engineering and the automotive industry; for cutting and non-cutting instruments for the medical and dental fields, as well as for the pharmaceutical and food processing industries.
