CarTech® Pyrotool® Alloy W

Generic Family: Nickel - Wrought - Ni-Cr AlloySupplied by: Carpenter Technology Corporation
CarTech Pyrotool alloy W is an austenitic hardenable nickel base alloy designed to possess high strength and hardness at temperatures up to 1500°F (816°C).

To achieve the best combination of hardness and toughness for tooling applications, CarTech Pyrotool alloy W is annealed and solution treated simultaneously at 1875°F (1024°C) for four hours, then oil quenched. It is then aged at 1550°F (843°C) for four hours and air cooled, followed by aging at 1400°F (760°C) for sixteen hours and air cooled.

CarTech Pyrotool alloy W, when aged, produces a hardness of Rockwell C 36/40.

Applications:
Applications for this grade have included high-temperature tooling, extrusion dies, dummy blocks, rings, holders, forging dies, mandrels, etc.
